So, I am still a little confused about the connection of Eccl 10:1 with the "dead flies" and the apothecary. Please explicate Pastor.

Milla said...

Milla is in the house. Giving God the praise always. Eccl. 10 is like the fly in the buttermilk adage. A fly will spoil anything it comes in contact with. If you are foolish you diminish the wisdom in you. We all generally know right from wrong, but we take these calculated risks thinking we always have tomorrow. We must be CONSISTENTLY wise and unwavering in our faith and desire to have a relationship to know GOD.

Pastor Phil said...

That's hot Milla, Blusher, Mandy and DJ Knockout and we need to keep giving God every opportunity to guide us in our decision making. What issues can keep us from developing this mindset of the wisdom of God? Let's keep this discussion going.

Ja Me-Me said...

There are so many contributing factors that keep us from developing the mindset of the wisdom of God. Ignorance, anger, bitterness, strife, malice, contempt, lack of communication with God, lack of knowing his Word, lack of commitment are just a few. We have got to get grounded in God's Word and stay in full communication with the holy spirit (our guide)so that God can give us more and more revelation. We are kingdom livers so we must be kingdom minded at all times.

Pastor Phil said...

That's a great comment Ja- me-me!! When you say Kingdom livers - what exactly do you mean? Let me hear from you tonight.

Pastor P

Pastor Phil said...

What a great bible study we had tonight and it is important for us to finish what we started!! What does "Cast your bread on the waters" mean to you guys now that we have started the conversation. Let me hear from all tonight!!

Tight in His grip,
Pastor P

Ja Me-Me said...

Hi Pastor,

I think I used livers because of lack of better term. What I am saying is that when we become save we become a part of God's kingdom. Everything we say or do should be for the advancement of God's kingdom. Our mission everyday should be to bring souls into the fold.

Ja Me-Me said...

As far as Cast your bread on the waters and our discussion, I agree with mostly everything that was said tonight by everyone. What we put out will definitely come back to us. The thing that stuck out to me was, I had to figure out for my own life why things are coming back to me the way they are. The answer is in verse one of Ecc. 11 You will reap what you sow basically. If you lack faith in something then you will reap the benefits (using that term sarcastically)of doubt. If I am not throwing out or casting out love or goodwill, how can I expect that to return to me. Tonight's biblestudy was an incredible lesson in us knowing we will definitely get back what we put out. So with that being said we must not repay evil for evil or treat people with malice because that thing could turn into a boomrang and hit us right back upside our head. Very interested in everyone's thought on the scripture tonight.

{{the comic book kid}} said...

i liked the word CAST and the deffinitions that Pastor gave us...because when i think about it, its like u put it out there and not really think about it anymore...like when i sew seed...i don't sew looking for something in return, but KNOWING that God will bless me...and before you know it... you are getting blessed in return...that was a very good word for me tonight...because lately i've been LOOKING for the return, instead of just knowing that its coming

i think that whatever we do {{when we sew into someone, or sacrifice for the betterment of another}} it should be done to honor God, not so that we can be paid back (if that makes any since)

What's up everyone!! I am blogging again just to keep everyone in the loop. WE need to be praying just because of the serious state that our country is in. Don't think that this is not Spiritual. God is speaking all the time, and it is up to us (believers) to recognize Him. The bible says "My sheep know My voice" and I know He is talking to those who can hear Him concerning our present state as a nation. Repent for the Kingdom is at hand!! This is for the House of God first!! What else do you think God is saying in this hour? Sound off SPM but even more than that, let's CAST our bread upon the waters in form of prayers that move heaven. I look forward to hearing from everyone - God Bless!!

To answer your question, I believe God is pressing upon all to come back to Him.

We've gotten good at talking the talk, but our walk renders something a lot less desirable. As the church more and more begins to mirror the world, we've now lost that very One thing that has set us apart in the first place.

Setting aside time for our mandated sabbath is essential. It's not a service we do for God or a meaningless ritual needing to be begrudgingly obeyed, but rather a vital joy that helps strengthen our relationship with Him.

God, the Creator of all things, including the Sabbath thought it necessary that we take time to spend with Him. He knows of our daily pressures and has thus provided a way to rest in Him - He who can make all things better -how much more then should we take heed.

What do you think about tonight's bible study - WOW!! Remember now thy Creator in your youth. What does this mean to you. I would like for everyone to blog this subject matter.

Remembering our Creator in our youth for this text regards for how we use our time. In the time of our life where we are most free, uninhibited, inquisitive, and malleable so happens to be in the literal years of younger age.

We should find resolve in a place where we can be those things - whether it be sans age or not. Namely, it's easier to fulfill our God-given purpose when we settle in such a place. I believe we're of greater/easier use when we walk in this mindset.

It becomes a more difficult feat to possess these qualities as the years progress and we move to the latter years of life - marked by qualities of inhibitions disinterest, and stiffness. If applicable, we must return to the quality of youth.

Pastor Phil said...

That's pretty good anon. So does this mean that when "the years progress" we find it difficult to do God's will as opposed to our younger years? Can a mature person not serve God as they should? Sound off Anon - I would love to hear your response.

I beleive the preacher here is admonishing us to adknowledge, look to, seek to know, put our youthful energies, our youthful courage, in remembering God(our creater). Don't waste that on the world! Remembering as in recalling His faithfulness, oh His justice, mercy, goodness and descriptions too numerous to name. It takes a youthful heart to get and stay in that place. One that has not been tanted or defiled with the cares of this world! One that's innocent and just takes God at His word, as an infant trusts and take their parents at their word..until something happens in that relationship that defiles that level of trust. God is constantly reassuring us in His word and showing us His faithfulness and there are never times that He does not do what He says He's going to, so we can, as His child, safely trust in Him. We can until that perfect day of redemption(maturity)! I hear the preacher saying here, don't go to the world first and then try to come back to this place of innocense, trust me, he's saying, I've had it all and I've done it all and at the end of the day it all was vanity, but a vapor, nothing, empty, void of purpose! Young person (in age or in the Lord), recall those things regarding our Creator. And lastly a shout out to our saved parents...give our children and God something to work with! God Bless!

What does the word "Creator" mean to you according to Eccl. 12? Let me hear you SPM and friends!!

One of the definitions that was given at bible study was bara(sp)=open up or bring into a tangible existence. In the beginning God created (revealed, opened up or brought into a tangible existence) the heavens and the earth. There is nothing new under the sun. God just opens it up to us. Just as Jesus always was, 1 John 1:1 says "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared (was revealed, opened up, brought into a tangible existence;) we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has (been revealed, opened up, brought into a tangible existence) appeared to us." As we continue to follow the Spirit of God, it is yet to be revealed,(opened up, brought into a tangible existence) what we will look like. 1 John 3 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. That’s the creative power of God! Hallelujah!

Pastor Phil said...

WOW Mother!! This is great and all from the Greek word "Bara" which is translated from our word "Creator". God wants to bring into our tangible existence His Word however we need to know and believe (Pistueo) His Word. What a difference our Creator (Bara) makes in our lives when we Fear and obey Him according to Eccle 12 (last two verses). I am so glad to be maturing into the image in which He made us. I want everyone to share what the Creator is doing in your life. SPM - It's all about HIM!!

Pastor P, what I'm describing is of two different dichotomies, connected by a single subject - a place of unadulterated relationship.

The first refers to a youthful purity, uncorrupted and undefiled from the woes experienced in this world (known because of physical age), while the other explains spiritual youthfulness, where one has a pure yearning for nothing but the Creator stemmed from not being effected from inexperience.

To answer your question, I do believe it is easier to serve when we have practiced from our youth rather than creating a new tradition later on in our settled lives.

Above all, however, we must find a/the way to serve the Creator no matter the category we find ourselves.

Pastor Phil said...

Good answer Im... We do need to be servants no matter how old or young we are. Your comment really makes me think that you were at the bible study that night. Were you? WOW - keep giving the excellent insight you give.

I want to pose another question without being so political. What do you think about Barack Obama's ex-Pastor's comments this week. Did anyone get an opportunity to see or hear one of his entire telecast tapings? I really have a totally different view of him now. However, his response to the question about Islam religion and them going to heaven without believing in Jesus was not what I expected. Unless I didn't interpret the question and/or his response I was in total disagreement. Sound off Porchites!! SPM is the bomb!!

WOW what an informative bible study!! Everybody you were great in giving your favorite scriptures in Ecclesiates. What I would like to know is what does it mean to be On Time and On Purpose to you? According to Ecclesiates 3 everything has a Time and a season. Timing is everything in God!! Sound off SPM - let me hear you.

I'm glad to be the first to respond. Let me preface first, this by saying: (despite many attempts to say this, and having to suffer interjections), the consensus among the group was not that You, Pastor Phil were wrong in your interpretation, but rather that through our own personal understanding (sans the extensive study that you well put together) we came up with something a little different.

I don't think we were wrong, but rather that our understanding had yet to materialize to what you were trying to relay due to our lack of study.

Now that that has been said, I am able to receive your (possibly the more correct) meaning(s) of the passage.

What can be said of the Song of Solomon's meaning. I know what.. last night's bible study really got us to think about what the writer could have been saying or what God wants to say through His Word. This I know, it is a beautiful love song!! What does the 1st chapter mean to you guys. What is God saying overall!! Come on SPM make some noise!
